Hey! So Glad You're Here.

I am ecstatic that you are here! The Front Woman represents the many Black women that work in politics behind the scenes. The Front Woman is me. For several years I have volunteered and later worked campaigns, but was never taken seriously and was always overlooked. This space was created purely out of necessity, I had moved to place where knowing someone  mattered more than actual qualifications. I was frustrated and defeated as many outsiders have found themselves in this city, but I persisted. Creating my own lane and controlling my space was the best thing I could have ever done for myself. It is in those moments that you learn what you are really made of, do you fail or succeed? I was and am still so hungry that failure was not a choice.

Working in the field during election season is where I feel most at home. I get the pleasure of meeting the many people that give a city its character. New Orleans is like no other place in the world, some would say it is its own country and I am inclined to agree. While I experienced a lot of disappointment here, I have experienced a lot of good too. My sister circle has been a God send in supporting me and seeing my success before I could. This is what Black women do, hold each other up. There is nobody in the world like us, and I believe the Black women that work behind the scenes in politics deserve to be seen.

Often times Field staff is overworked and under appreciated and when you think about it we are treated like the middle class of the United States of America. We are expected to do all of the work, create forward movement, make life easier for everyone else, and be paid bare minimum. We are closest to the pain and should be treated with the respect we and many constituents deserve.

Many Black women in these spaces are dope, but often don't get the respect they deserve and more importantly earned. The Front Woman is dedicated to those who have and will go from 'Overlooked to Overbooked'. It's your season sis, go make it happen.
